ROWAN COUNTY – Deputies arrested a 60 year-old man on after a sexual abuse investigation against a five-year-old child.
Deputies were contacted by the victim’s parents on December 2nd and identified the suspect as Martin Cordell of Johnson Dairy Road as the suspect.
The victim disclosed details of the abuse to family members and then again to investigators. Additional evidence was obtained during the investigation , and it was learned that Cordell is known to the victim and had frequent access to them, according to a news release.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office partnered with the Department of Social Services and the Terrie Hess House Child Advocacy Center in the case and Cordell was arrested on two counts of first degree statutory sex offense and two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child. He was given $75,000 secured bond and is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center, Pending a first appearance in court on December 20th.
