Black Lives Matter Protest in Uptown Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was their piercing march through the heart of Uptown that had a tearful message.
“When black lives are under attack, what to we do? Stand up, Fight back.”
“It just hurts my soul to see that,” Erica Scott, part of the Black Lives Matter Group said, pointing out 27 Charlotte homicides by summer.
And two cases of officers killing black men.
“When my husband leaves the house, I’m scared for his life because I don’t know what’s going to happen to him when he’s out and I have three children,” Scott explained.
A crowd of anti-violence advocates, pastors, parents, and childrenΒ all expressed fears of police shootings.
“I’ve had to tell my son if you get pulled over stick your hands out the window and stick your head out the window and say I am not armed” Iisha Brown said.
They listed names of the Louisiana and Minnesota men killed with no gun in their hands, their deaths captured on camera.
“How much more evidence do we need before everyone else that isn’t a person of color is like you know what this is wrong?”
A moment of silence closed their case, but they kept marching, police monitoring, their message echoing.
“We need to stand up and do stuff like this because it’s not going to happen if we don’t come together.”
