LINCOLNTON, N.C. — A former assistant fire chef at Lincolnton Fire Department will spend six months behind bars after pleading guilty to embezzlement.
Investigators say William V. Fortenberry embezzled nearly $30,000 from the Fire Fighters Burned Children’s Fund while he was the active treasurer.
Police also say Fortenberry embezzled approximately $5,000 while he was the treasurer for the Pisgah United Methodist Church-United Men’s Organization.
On July 5th, Fortenberry pleaded guilty to nine counts of embezzlement. He received two 6-17 months suspended sentences, with a six-month active sentence that he will serve in increments of three, two month sentences and under work release.
Fortenberry was also given 30 months probation and ordered to pay restitution to the Fire Fighters Burned Children’s Fund, Inc. and the Pisgah United Methodist Church.
