Intense Heat Means Danger For Outdoor Workers, Paramedics
CHARLOTTE, NC– No relief for those working in the relentless heat.
Construction workers in town are facing temperatures that won’t let up. Charlotte paramedics have worked nearly 20 heat related calls in two days. That’s a record number; up 11 percent from last July.
Medics prep to deal with heat themselves, cooling off and changing crews periodically during calls.
Construction managers are constantly watching crews for heat exhaustion.
“It’s really bad I was doing tests with a guy the other day, and we both had to stop because we were just getting sick to our stomaches. I mean we get in the truck, we try to get in the shade,” said soil surveyor Michael Nelms.
Parents are keeping kids cool in the water. Keep an eye out for heat stroke symptoms: confusion, nausea, headache, flushed skin, and you could stop sweating.
