ROCK HILL, S.C. — A Rock Hill woman has been arrested and charged with ill treatment of animals after leaving two puppies in a hot car on Friday.
Heather Sutton, 25, of Rock Hill was arrested and charged with two counts of ill treatment of animals following an investigation.
Police say they received a complaint stating that two dogs were locked in a vehicle at the Olive Garden on John Ross Parkway in Rock Hill at about 2:10 p.m. on the afternoon of Friday, July 29th.
Upon arrival, officers located two women under a tree with two puppies. The puppies were determined to be six to eight weeks old, and were in distress.
One of the witnesses stated that she heard screaming coming from a red Nissan Quest, and noticed the two dogs on their backs under the passenger seat of the vehicle. The witness says she waited ten minutes before reaching in to the cracked window of the vehicle, unlocking the door, and retrieving the puppies.
According to the responding officers, the temperature inside the van was over 100 degrees.
When Ms. Sutton returned to the vehicle, she stated that she had been eating inside the Olive Garden for the 30 minutes. She was placed under arrest and transported to the Rock Hill Jail. The animals were taken by York County Animal Control.
