Video Shows Driver’s Route After Deadly Hit and Run
Khalid Perry killed on Albemarle and Lawyers Rd.
CHARLOTTE, NC — Police have released new traffic camera video from a deadly hit and run Saturday morning.
The video shows the moves the driver made after hitting Khalid Perry on Albemarle Rd. and Lawyers Rd. The driver left Perry alone, dying in the crosswalk.
“It was a heartless thing to do. You happen to hit my son and continued to go on like if nothing happened. He wasn’t an animal,” said Nicole Parker. “You pretty much treated him as if he was nothing and no one, and he was a person.”
Perry was 21-years-old. Family says he just enjoyed a night with friends and was walking to his mother’s house around 2:15 in the morning Saturday when the grey or silver four door car hit him.
Video shows the car drive two miles and speed around Harrisburg Rd.
Perry died in the hospital. Three days later, his family begs the driver to stop running.
“It’s a thing called remorse,” said Perry’s grandmother, Gloria Parker. “If you don’t have no remorse, you don’t have no kind of gut.”
Footage from the traffic cameras allowed police to narrow down an area where the car came from. Officers say the driver likely came from one of the apartment complexes on E. W.T. Harris Blvd. between Lawyers Rd. and Trysting Rd.
“If anybody knows of anybody that has a car that possibly fits that description, and all the sudden, the car is disappeared or is covered up, parked in a garage, anything like that, thats the kind of information we’re looking for,” said Sgt. Jesse Wood.
Police say the car that hit Perry will likely have damage to the windshield and roof.
“They have to know that they did something wrong, they know,” said Nicole Parker. “There’s no ifs about that.”
There have been at least six deadly hit and runs this year in Charlotte. Defense attorneys say drivers could face up to 59 months in prison, depending on prior convictions.
