Suspect Shot During Attempted Armed Robbery Pretends To Be Victim, Police Say

CHARLOTTE, NC — Police say a suspect pretended to be the victim of an attempted robbery after being shot trying to rob someone else.

Police say three suspects attempted to rob a victim on Mellwood Drive around 1:44am Tuesday. The suspects began shooting at the victim, who returned fire and hit one of the suspects.

According to the report, the wounded suspect then drove to Garden Trace Court and called 911. The suspect told police he was robbed and shot. Investigators determined that was not the truth.

He was taken to CMC with non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported. Investigators say the victim did know at least one of the suspects.

This investigation is ongoing.
