Former UNC Football coach Bill Dooley Passes away at 82

Former University of North Carolina and Wake Forest University football coach Bill Dooley has passed away at the age of 82.

Dooley’s family said that he died of natural causes at his home in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Bill Dooley coached at UNC from 1967 to 1977 where he won 69 games.  He holds the longest tenure of any head coach in UNC football history.

He also was the head coach at Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.  Dooley won three bowl games in his career and was the coach of the year in the ACC in 1971, 1987, and 1992.  His overall career coaching record was 162-126-5.

Dooley was the brother of Vince Dooley, the legendary coach of the Georgia Bulldogs.
