People Vent at Vigil for Jordyn Dumont

BESSEMER CITY, N.C. – Tragedy has a way of pulling even the tightest knit areas more closely together. The murder of 3-year-old Jordyn Dumont is doing that at a candlelight vigil in Gaston County, all while family and friends reflect. Grieve. And vent.

“From the coverage that you all had last night, the people you interviewed, they knew what was going on,” says Hellfighters Motorcycle Ministry’s Carl Crook.

Vigil organizer Cindy Ellis says, “I know people nowadays don’t want to get involved. But you got a small child that is helpless. Is defenseless. That we as adults are supposed to take care of.”

Police agencies, family, friends, strangers and several motorcycle groups including Guardians of The Children were at Wednesday night’s vigil in Bessemer City. Gaston County Fire Chaplain Brad Hall says, “For this community, this is their service.”

Jordyn Dumont’s biological father, Josh Kinnett, who just got into town from Illinois, is also hoping for closure. He says, “(I’m) really just kinda lost at words right now. I’m just so overwhelmed by all the support and the care and the love that everybody has.”

Kinnett was also given a small gift in Jordyn’s memory. Ellis explained through tears, “It’s just a candle. It’s pink. I was told Jordyn’s favorite color was pink. I had her initials put on it. And when you purchase his candle, it feeds a child. Jordyn is helping another child.”

Funeral arrangements for Jordyn Dumont have not yet been set. When they are, we will let you know.
