Temps, Rain Chances Ramp Up Through Workweek

Clouds build in by Tuesday morning - and rain chances take off from there.

The final full week of January is off to a sunny start, but don’t expect the bright skies to last much longer. Highs will struggle to clear the 30s and 40s this afternoon despite abundant sunshine and gentle southerly breezes. Clouds build in overnight as moisture from the Gulf builds into the Southeast. The gray skies will keep us more insulated tonight, allowing most in the Metro and southward to remain above freezing for the first time since Friday. Another chilly day is on tap for us on Tuesday as clouds and a few isolated showers rule the afternoon – highs will again end up in the 30s and 40s.

Temperatures and rain chances begin a meteoric rise by midweek. Highs will jump into the 50s and 60s for most on Wednesday, although the warmest temperatures may not arrive until the evening. Widespread rain sweeps into the Carolinas by sunset on Wednesday, as well. Although it won’t be a complete washout to close the workweek, several rounds of rain bombard the WCCB Charlotte viewing area on Thursday and Friday. especially to the west of the Metro. A few thunderstorms are possible as highs approach 70Β°, although the severe threat will be low. 1-4″ of rain is in the forecast across our area; the potential for the highest totals lies in the Foothills and High Country. One final round of rain slides in by Saturday night before we dry out and cool back down.
