Warmer Days Are On The Way Along With Some Rain

Cloudy Skies and warmer temperatures will stay this week

Cloudy Skies and warmer temperatures will stay this week

Tuesday will be the final chilly day we’ll have for a while, but widespread rain later this week will make it difficult to enjoy the incoming warmth.

Scattered light rain today becomes heavier and more widespread as we delve deeper into the workweek.

Clouds have moved in complements of Gulf moisture, and an approaching storm system from the southwest. Rain chances and totals begin to pick up overnight into Wednesday as the storm system draws closer to the QC.  The biggest threat for heavy rain lies to the northwest of the Metro, but everyone should see at least a quarter-inch through midweek. This will be nothing like the storm systems that have passed by recently with severe weather attached.  This system will just be a rain producer.

Opportunities for showers and even a few thunderstorms are possible as we head into the final two days of the workweek. Temperatures will soar as well, approaching 70° in the Metro on both Thursday and Friday. Fortunately, the severe risk appears to be low despite the increase in energy. That said, we’ll need to watch a second system that arrives by Saturday night for some strong storms. Rain totals will end up between 1-3″ over the next five days, with locally higher amounts possible to the northwest. Stable air finally filters in by Sunday afternoon, setting us up for a beautiful sunny day in the 50s and 60s to close out January’s final weekend. The transition week between January and February will start out drier and cooler.
