Sunny Skies, Comfy Highs Kick Off February

Rain chances remain few and far between through the weekend before rising again by the start of the next workweek.

The first day of February is known as the heart of winter for most, but it’ll feel more like spring. Abundant sunshine and highs approaching 60° are on tap to kick off the second month of the year across the Piedmont and Foothills; the mountains will enjoy temperatures closer to 50°. Even more warmth builds in on Friday as the Metro tops out in the mid-60s to close out the workweek. A backdoor cold front will encroach upon the Carolinas by Friday night, bringing cooler air into the start of the weekend, but rain chances remain few and far between. Highs will reach near-average territory in the 40s and 50s for both weekend days ahead with mostly sunny skies.

Widespread cloud coverage builds back into the Carolinas by Sunday evening as a rainmaking system approaches from the southwest. Despite the availability of cold air pooling in from the northeast, this looks like a rain event for the Piedmont and Foothills – assuming we see anything at all. Regardless of precipitation, colder conditions careen into the Carolinas by midweek as highs struggle to clear the 30s and 40s.
