YORK COUNTY, S.C. – The death of a 40-year-old inmate at the York County Detention Center is being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), according to a press release.
The release states that on February 19, 2024, an inmate was in medical distress and taken to an area hospital at 6:30 pm where he later died just after 9:00 pm.
Sheriff Kevin Tolson has requested SLED to investigate the inmate’s death in accordance with YCSO police, as said by the Sheriff’s Office.
The inmate had been at the detention center since December 27, 2023, for charges of possession of stolen vehicle and fugitive from justice for a criminal charge out of Virginia, according to the release.
