Statesville Man Charged For Driving With Suspended License, Possessing Cocaine, Methamphetamine

STATESVILLE, N.C. – A 33-year-old man is facing multiple charges after police say he was driving with a suspended license and was in possession of cocaine and methamphetamine, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, February 26th, officers spotted a motorcycle with no working tail lights on Salisbury Road. A female passenger was also not wearing a helmet.

When the deputy got behind the motorcycle, the driver allegedly made eye contact before accelerating at a high rate of speed.

The same deputy later initiated a traffic stop on the motorcycle on Old Salisbury Road. Officials say the driver, identified as Charles Smith Jr., had a suspended license and a fake license plate.

A canine unit was called to assist with the stop and a search found 2.71 grams of cocaine, 1.28 grams of methamphetamine and 3.28 grams of marijuana.

Smith was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Felony Possession of Cocaine
  • Felony Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Felony Maintain a Vehicle for the Use of a Controlled Substance
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana
  • Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia
  • Driving While License Revoked
  • Displaying a Fictitious Tag
  • No Liability Insurance
  • Fail to Burn Taillight on a Motorcycle

He is being held on a $100,000 bond at the Iredell County Detention Center.

The passenger, identified as Cassidy Bailey, received a citation for not wearing a helmet.
