SUMTER, S.C. — Police say a man wanted for attempted murder and several other charges could be hiding in Charlotte.
Investigators are searching for 25-year-old Dontrell Montese Carter. He is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase along US 521 North before wrecking down an embankment on September 18th.
Police say Carter exited his vehicle and fired shots from a semi-automatic rifle at officers before he escaped into a wooded area. No officers were injured.
Carter is facing charges of domestic violence, failure to stop for a blue light and siren, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, seven counts of attempted murder, driving under suspension and firing shots into a dwelling.
Carter has medium complexion, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 170 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen, Carter had dreadlocks and a mustache, but he could have changed his appearance. He has no known scars or tattoos.
Anyone with information on Carter’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately. A cash reward could be available for information leading to an arrest.
