Tracking Hurricane Matthew Through Saturday, Nice Weather Returns Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC — Hurricane Matthew continues to move along the Florida coast and will gradually move northeast tonight and Saturday.

The current track keeps Matthew just off of the South Carolina coast. In Charlotte, periods of rain and breezy conditions will continue through the overnight. Rain will increase early Saturday and linger through a good portion of the day. Rain will begin to exit the region from west to east during the afternoon and evening. Areas north and west of Charlotte will receive 1-3 inches of rain with our eastern counties seeing 3-6 inches. For most area of the area, winds will gust to 30 mph, but eastern counties may gust closer to 40 mph. Conditions will rapidly improve Saturday night with beautiful weather returning Sunday into early next week.

**Hurricane Matthew is expected to have major impacts along the southeast coast through Saturday. Rain will continue into the overnight and increase in intensity. Heavy rain will continue through the day Saturday before gradually coming to an end Saturday night. Many locations will receive 7-12 inches of rain, isolated totals up to 15 inches. Winds will gust 50-70 mph Saturday morning through the afternoon. Conditions will improve Saturday night with sunshine returning Sunday.**
