Lancaster Sheriff’s Office Make Arrest In Homicide Investigation

LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C. – Investigators with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office have arrested and charged a 23-year-old in relation to a homicide, according to a news release.

The release states that deputies began an investigation after a relative found 65-year-old Harriet Mahaffey dead in her home from apparent gunshot wounds on March 5, 2024. Deputies say they started with Mahaffey’s missing Jeep Grand Cherokee, which resulting in learning that Lloyd Caldwell, 23, was in possession of the Jeep and later obtained Caldwell’s location and took him into custody.

A search warrant for Caldwell’s home was obtained and the release says that evidence implicating Caldwell was obtained. Caldwell was detained in the Lancaster County Detention Center and charged with murder, burglary 1st degree, grand larceny more than $2,000 and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, as said by deputies.
