First Flu Death Of The Season For North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, NC– It may be early in the season but north carolina has already seen its first flu death.

Dr. Marcus Plescia says seeing a death so soon into the season is concerning.

Tonight he emphasizes the importance of being vaccinated, especially the young and the elderly. Children under 5 and adults over 65 are the most vulnerable to the virus.

If there is one easy thing you can do to protect your health it’s to get a flu shot. Flu shots are widely available in the community now, they tend to work extremely well.

All mecklenburg county public health employees are required to get the flu shot this year.
