District Attorney’s Office Asks SBI To Investigate Lab Analyst

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has alerted the the District Attorney’s Office about procedural irregularities in the biological analysis performed by an analyst at the CMPD Crime Laboratory.

While an internal CMPD investigation is underway to verify further both the scope and detail of these irregularities, the District Attorney’s Office has asked the NC State Bureau of Investigation to determine whether these suspected practice failures suggest any violation of the criminal law, according to a news release.

“As we learn more, in the interest of justice, we will begin work to identify both pending and previously resolved cases that may be impacted by this discovery, and, when appropriate, we will notify defense counsel of any relevant new information related to such cases, says District Attorney Spencer Merriweather, these remedies are necessary because it remains the vision of this office to prioritize justice through integrity so that every person can place trust in our work.”
