Governor McCrory Continues To Visit Areas Impacted By Hurricane Matthew
NORTH CAROLINA — Governor Pat McCrory continued touring areas affected by Hurricane Matthew Monday including Bladen and Columbus counties in eastern NC.
The governor gave updates on the ongoing recovery efforts throughout the damaged regions. McCrory said the death toll in NC currently stands at 27. The total dropped, according to officials, after one previously reported death in Lenoir county was ruled not to be related to Hurricane Matthew.
During his visits the governor met with business owners and residents still reeling from Matthew’s damage. He also spoke with local and federal agencies, as well as non-profits working together to help rebuild streets and neighborhoods throughout the area.
Governor McCrory assured residents that the state’s top priorities are getting people out of shelters and into temporary housing, rebuilding infrastructures like roads and dams, and addressing any water issues that remain present. McCrory said he still hopes to call for a special legislative session once long-term financial needs of the state have been accurately assessed.
Anyone wishing to help with the relief effort can still to make financial or other contributions. Monetary contributions to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Matthew can be made by texting NCRECOVERS to 30306 or by visiting NCDisasterRelief.org
