CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education (BOE) discussed Superintendent Hill’s recommended budget for the 2024-2025 school year at tonight’s regularly held BOE meeting. Superintendent Hill recommended a budget of just under $2.1 billion.
The CMS BOE kicked off the budget discussions with Superintendent Hill at a work session in early February. Immediately following that work session, stakeholder meetings with multiple groups and advisory councils were conducted through mid-March. This stakeholder engagement process helped to shape the proposed budget to achieve CMS’s Pillars of Excellence.
Top Budget Discussion Items:
- People Excellence Pillar: This discussion addressed hiring, retaining, and professionally developing high caliber teachers and staff to fully support students. This effort focuses on an increase to the local teacher supplement and raises the minimum hourly pay for all hourly employees to $20.00 per hour.
- Operational Excellence Pillar: This discussion focused on the increasing costs for sustaining operations of existing facilities, operational costs to add two new schools, and providing students with up-to-date devices.
“The Superintendent’s proposed budget includes a request for additional funding to ensure our students have the resources they need to reach their full potential,” states Chair Sneed. “Community input to help inform this discussion on needed resources will be critical and I ask that our invested students, family members and community partners engage in the process to help shape the final vote.”
