Windy Start to the Weekend

Weather Headlines:
  • Windy Day
  • Drying Out this Weekend
  • Big Warm Up through Early Next Week

Today, we’re seeing a shift to drier and cooler air following the passage of a secondary cold front. A low-pressure system is positioned over Lake Erie, steering a large upper trough our way and bringing the last of the rain showers with it. Clouds are clearing for just about everyone outside of the mountains. Northwest flow over the Blue Ridge will keep the clouds in place along with a few showers near the TN border. Across the Piedmont and Foothills, showers are tapering off but could still see an isolated sprinkle or two later in the day.
It’s going to be windy today. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the mountain areas from noon through 10am, with gusts more than 50 mph possible. These conditions are expected to continue into Saturday.
Looking ahead to the weekend, the winds should ease by Saturday evening. Temps will reach the low to mid 70s Saturday and climb into the low to mid 80s by Sunday. It’s going to feel more like late May than mid-April! For next week, the warm and dry pattern will continue with rain chances increasing late in the week.
