Local Woman Says Moving Company Will Not Tell Her Where Her Belongings Are
STATESVILLE, N.C. – WCCB is working to get answers for a local woman who contacted WCCB for help with her moving company. Ashley Ayers moved from South Carolina to North Carolina to be closer to her husband’s medical team while he was in hospice care. She hired Ryder Relocations to move her family’s belongings. She says they quoted her just under $6,000. But she says they changed the quote after their home was packed up and on the moving truck to $18,000.
In the middle of this, Ashley’s husband passed away. She has refused to pay the $18,000 and says Ryder and their subcontractor will not tell her where her belongings are, including her husband’s will and other estate papers.
Ayers tells WCCB, “I can’t settle estate stuff. I can’t sell vehicles. I don’t have any of his things…nothing to even remember him by, like physical things.
WCCB has contacted Ryder’s three times and still not heard back. Ayers has hired an attorney, and says law enforcement is aware of the situation. We will keep working on this and keep you posted.
