CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A local attorney is accused of assaulting one of her employees at her law office, faking a seizure during her arrest, and spitting on multiple first responders, according to an arrest warrant.
Officers were dispatched to the Law Office of Mary Leazer Rogers on Euclid Avenue in South End just before 12pm on April 15th in reference to an assault. The victim told officers Rogers punched her five times on the right side of her face while she was sitting in a chair, according to an arrest warrant.
The victim told officers on the scene that Rogers accused her of having a personal relationship with a male client. The victim also told officers Rogers wanted to have a sexual relationship with her, but she has refused to engage with the suspect, according to the warrant.
The victim told officers that Rogers got upset and began arguing with the victim which led to cursing and then the alleged assault, according to the warrant.
Once officers placed Rogers under arrest for assault, Rogers allegedly used her right foot to kick an officer on the lower right leg, according to the warrant. The warrant also claims that Rogers then spit in the face of another officer at the patrol car.
Officers say Rogers then became combative and refused to have a seat in the back of the patrol car, according to the warrant. Rogers is accused of laying on her stomach across the rear seat of the patrol car while in handcuffs. Officers say they opened the door and tried to reposition Rogers but she forced her way out of the patrol car and onto the ground.
Rogers is then accused of screaming and cursing which caused many people to come out of their offices to see what was going on, according to the warrant. Officers say Rogers then started having what officers believed was a seizure, according to the warrant. Medical personnel were called to the scene. While Rogers was being loaded into an ambulance, officers say she spit on one of the first responders, according to the warrant.
Later, officers say Rogers told medical staff at the hospital that she faked the seizure, according to the warrant.
Rogers has been charged with simple assault, assault on government officials, and malicious conduct by a prisoner.
