CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two Charlotte homes were set on fire Wednesday by lightning strikes, causing a combined $225,000 in damages, according to the Charlotte Fire Department.

The first fire was set around 2:45 p.m. at a home on Churchill Road near North Wendover Road. The second was set near Uptown at a residence on Westbrook Drive.

Both fires were controlled by firefighters in approximately 30 minutes.

Following an investigation, Charlotte Fire determined that both fires were accidental and caused by a lightning strike.

The Churchill Road fire was contained to a detached garage with an in-law suite, CFD said. The estimated property loss was $105,000.

The fire on Westbrook Drive caused approximately $120,000 in damages.

This is the third home in Charlotte to be set on fire by lightning this month alone. On May 9th, lightning struck the chimney of a home in south Charlotte.
