ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. – Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies attempted to serve an order for arrest, which resulted in the death of a man after he fired shots at the deputies, according to a news release.
The release states that on May 28, 2024, deputies were dispatched to Old Concord Road to serve an order for arrest to Kenneth Vickers. After arriving at the residence, Vickers was found by a shed and fired at the deputies with a handgun, resulting in them returning fire, as said by the deputies.
Vickers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies say that Vickers was convicted on May 24 on six counts of statutory sex offense and six counts of indecent liberties.
No deputies were injured. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident.
