CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is excited to announce the launch of its innovative five-year Strategic Plan, which will guide the district’s priorities as it works to achieve the 2024-2029 goals established by the Board of Education. The official launch of the plan took place today at the district’s Summer Leadership Conference. The Strategic Plan is the result of extensive community input, thorough data analysis, and collaborative efforts among district stakeholders.
The Summer Leadership Conference brought together school and district administrators along with community leaders to share insights on leadership and innovation in education. The conference featured keynote speakers, breakout sessions, and interactive workshops, culminating in the official launch of the CMS Strategic Plan 2024-2029.
Superintendent, Dr. Crystal Hill expressed enthusiasm about the new initiative, stating, “I am excited that we now have a focused plan of work that will take our district to unprecedented levels of excellence without exception. The thoughtful work that went into this plan resulted in a strategy that is both ambitious and realistic – which will chart our path to achieving our mission, vision and goals, ultimately resulting in strong student outcomes and a better economic future for Charlotte.”
This plan was created under the leadership of Dr. Hill, Beth Thompson, Chief of Strategy and Innovation, the Strategy Management Team, and several CMS focus groups. The Strategic Plan outlines priorities and strategies aimed at achieving the district’s goals and guardrails, with a strong emphasis on improving student achievement through measurable outcomes. In addition, this initiative aligns with the district’s commitment to enhancing educational opportunities and ensuring the well-being of all students. Resources will be allocated annually in the CMS operating budget to support the effective implementation of this plan.
The Strategic Plan represents the next phase in a series of initiatives undertaken over the past year to enhance the district’s organizational effectiveness. There are 18 priorities in the strategic plan with 70 action-oriented strategies that were identified to support each priority. We will monitor our progress on the strategic plan through internal monitoring routines throughout each school year and will issue a District Annual Report that shares our progress with the community.
“I am extremely grateful for the support of our community, families and partners in education because we know that when we work together we can create endless possibilities that start with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill.
