Buster Murdaugh Files Defamation Lawsuit Against Warner Bros., Netflix, and Others

MANNING, S.C. — Alex Murdaugh’s son, Buster, has filed a massive defamation lawsuit against Warner Bros., Netflix, and many others after they allegedly accused him of murdering Stephen Smith during several streaming shows and publications.

The lawsuit lists a slew of defendants including:

  • Blackfinn, Inc.
  • Warner Bros. Discovery, Inc.
  • Warner Media Entertainment Pages, Inc.
  • Campfire Studios Inc.
  • The Cinemart LLC
  • Netflix, Inc.
  • Gannett Co, Inc.
  • Michael M. Dewitt, Jr.

In the lawsuit, the defendants are accused of hosting documentaries and/or posting stories alleging that Buster was linked to the death of Smith, who was killed in a hit and run in South Carolina in 2015. That case has not been solved and investigators reopened the case after Alex Murdaugh was convicted of murdering his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul.

Buster is going after the companies for “reckless conduct” that falsely accuses him of being involved in the murder of Stephen Smith, according to the court documents.
