Murder Suspect Agrees To Plea Deal
CHARLOTTE, NC– A plea deal tonight for the man who shot and killed the owner of a well-known greenhouse in Dilworth.
In court today 22-year-old Kevin DeJesus agreed to a sentence of 12 years for voluntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors say DeJesus shot Jesse Campbell inside Campbell’s Lake Wylie home in January.
The attorney representing DeJesus says his client shot in self-defense, and that campbell tried to force young hispanic workers to have sex with him before he would pay them their wages.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Campbell tried to make my client perform a sexual act, he refused to do that, he then produced a gun, a struggle ensued, and then he was shot and killed,” said DeJesus’ attorney, Harry Dest.
DeJesus is from Honduras. He is here illegally and will be deported once he serves his sentence.
