CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A fatal vehicle motor crash involving a pedestrian occurred on Statesville Avenue and is being investigated by CMPD, according to a news release.
The release states that on July 14, officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a 2021 Jeep Compass and a pedestrian on Statesville Avenue.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers say they found 67-year-old Michael Sampson in the roadway and the Compass in the right lane with damage.
Sampson was identified as the pedestrian and 32-year-old Ashlee Friday was identified as the driver of the Compass. Sampson was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead.
As a result of the investigation, officers say Friday was driving south on Statesville Avenue before she struck Sampson while he was attempting to cross the street on a pedestrian crosswalk.
Friday was not injured and was determined not to be impaired.
