Global IT Outage: Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Update

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Some airlines at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport are beginning to resume operations after morning ground stops due to global technology impacts, per a post via X.

George Kurtz, CEO of cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike, shared in a statement that the problem happened when they deployed a faulty update to computers running Microsoft windows.

This knocked banks and hospital systems offline and media outlets off air. It also grounded flights. The U.S. was hit hard with nearly 9% of all domestic flights being cancelled by mid-day on Friday.

According to FlightAware, more than 38,000 flights were delayed and more than 4,000 were canceled Friday at airports across the globe.

At Charlotte Douglas, 936 fights were delayed and 187 were cancelled.

Passengers can expect cancellations/delays continuing throughout the day and extended wait times.

CLT Airport has advised passengers to contact airlines directly for the latest.
