Parents Charged With Felony Child Abuse

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office have charged two parents with a felony child abuse charge after bruises and other injuries were found on their 10-month-old child, according to a news release.

The release states that deputies responded to a call on July 23 to check on a 10-month-old child after family members reported seeing bruises and other unidentifiable markings.

Deputies say they transported the infant to a hospital after arriving on the scene and noticing several bruises and injuries.

Medical experts at the hospital say the injuries on the child were a result of intentional abuse and some were caused cigarette lighter burns and bite marks.

After an investigation, detectives arrested and charged Martavious Smith and Shalisa Lowe on July 27 with felony child abuse intentionally causing serious bodily injury.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
