Matthews Police Issue Warning After Increase In Vehicle Break-Ins

MATTHEWS, NC — Police are warning residents to remove valuables and keep their vehicle doors locked after seeing a spike in vehicle break-ins.

Officials say most of the vehicles broken into were unlocked and valuables were stolen. Police are asking residents to practice the “Hide, Lock, Take” principle to help avoid any potential theft.

The “Hide, Lock, Take” principle says to Hide your items that have to be left in your car out of plain view, Lock all of your car doors, and Take your keys with you every time. Police say you should get in a routine of securing their vehicles and removing their valuables no matter the time or location.

Anyone that sees suspicious activity should call local law enforcement and report it immediately.
