MATTHEWS, NC — A nasty wreck closed part of a busy road in Matthews Tuesday night. Police say that wreck is connected to three others that happened nearby.
Around 6pm Tuesday night, police got a call about a reckless driver. They say the driver of the red Audi hit two other cars and a mailbox before this final accident happened on Idlewild Road near Plenty Wood Drive. This all happened in a matter of minutes within miles of the final scene. According to investigators, the crash happened in a family’s yard. The homeowner says he’s grateful his son wasn’t playing outside.
“I heard a loud screech, and then it sounded like a bomb went off,” said Matthews resident Chad Brown. “It was scary, and if he had been out here riding his bike on the sidewalk, something bad could have happened.”
