Police Release Name Of Pedestrian Killed In North Charlotte Accident

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed in north Charlotte.

Investigators say the accident happened on Statesville Road near Alma Court just before 7:30am.

Police say Ronald Shipes was driving a 2006 Mazda 5 south on Statesville Avenue when 59-year-old Lewis Lairsey walked into the path of his vehicle.

Investigators say Lairsey was crossing mid-block and was not in a marked crosswalk or at an intersection at the time of the accident. Β LairseyΒ was pronounced dead on the scene.

Speed and alcohol are not factors for the driver of the vehicle, according to a news release. Β No charges have been filed at this time.
