CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed in north Charlotte.
Investigators say the accident happened on Statesville Road near Alma Court just before 7:30am.
Police say Ronald Shipes was driving a 2006 Mazda 5 south on Statesville Avenue when 59-year-old Lewis Lairsey walked into the path of his vehicle.
Investigators say Lairsey was crossing mid-block and was not in a marked crosswalk or at an intersection at the time of the accident. Lairsey was pronounced dead on the scene.
Speed and alcohol are not factors for the driver of the vehicle, according to a news release. No charges have been filed at this time.
