York School District Prepares To Put $90 Million Bond On Ballot

YORK, S.C. — A local school district battling overcrowding hopes that voters can help. York School District 1 is preparing to put a $90 million dollar bond on the ballot. WCCB Charlotte’s Zane Cina reports on why some parents are struggling to get on board.

District officials say a bond referendum will be put on voting ballots this November. It will be up to voters to decide if the $90 million bond will pass.

If approved, the district says it will use the $90 million to build an early childhood development center and a new middle school. District Board Member, Scott Childers says the news schools will help the district handle growth in its schools.

“Will help overall, especially with some of the numbers at the elementary school,” Childers said. “Trying to keep those numbers to where we don’t have overcrowding in each classroom or we don’t go to a mobile unit.”

The School Board still needs to decided where it would put a new development center and middle school. Administrators say those decisions will be made if the bond passes.
