Police: Man Arrested For Assaulting Owner Of Gay Bar

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police say a man was arrested for assaulting the owner of a gay bar in Dilworth.

Witnesses claim Lucas Wilhelmson entered The Bar at 316 on Rensselaer Avenue just after 2am Sunday morning and began yelling at patrons and causing a disturbance.

The owner of the bar told police he approached Wilhelmson and asked him to leave.  The owner also said he asked Wilhelmson if needed a cab because he appeared intoxicated.  At that time, police say Wilhelmson assaulted the owner, striking him several times with an open hand and communicating threats.

Wilhelmson was arrested a short time later and charged with assault and communicating threats.  Police say the investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending.
