Funeral For Erica Parsons Scheduled For Saturday

SALISBURY, N.C. — The remains of Erica Lynn Parsons have been released from the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office and are being returned to Rowan County. The body of Erica will be laid to rest Saturday, February 25, 2017, the day after what is Erica’s birthday.

The remains of Erica were found in Chesterfield County, South Carolina. Erica was reported missing in Rowan County more three years ago. Her adoptive parents, Sandy and Casey Parsons, are now serving federal time for fraud.

The sheriff of Chesterfield County confirmed for WCCB that Erica’s remains were found buried in a remote, wooded area about 75 miles south of Salisbury, where Erica lived. The girl’s remains were found one mile off SC-9 between Pageland and Mt. Croghan, an area close to Sandy Parsons’ mother’s home.  Sandy was Erica’s adoptive father.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office says it got a tip in August 2016 that Erica was likely dead. Then Rowan County detectives, along with the FBI and SBI, recovered Erica’s remains. Officials say they were lead to the area by Sandy Parsons. The remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office and confirmed as hers. Her family has been notified.

Erica Parsons was last seen at her Rowan County home in 2011. Her adoptive brother, James, reported her missing in 2013. James filed a missing persons report, which launched an investigation.

The Parsons’ home was searched, but there was no sign of Erica. Erica’s adoptive parents were never charged in her disappearance, but they were found guilty of fraud for continuing to collect the little girl’s disability benefits after she disappeared. During that fraud trial, James recounted shocking details of the horrific abuse Erica endured in the home.

No new information about the progress of the investigation, findings from the medical examiners or potential criminal charges will be released at this time, according to a news release. The investigation of this case continues and all of the findings are still being reviewed by the Rowan County District Attorney.

This funeral service is open to the public and will be a time for the community to remember and celebrate the short life of Erica.
