Union County Fire Marshal Welcomes New Arson Dog
MONROE, N.C. — Union County welcomes a new fire marshal investigator, and by all accounts he has a tremendous nose for the job.
Camden, an Accelerant Detection Canine, is a 2 year old yellow Labrador Retriever specially trained “to sniff out scents of various liquids that arsonists use to start fires.”
Camden searches for ignitable liquids, such as gasoline and kerosene, and sits to alert his handler when he finds the the source of the product. Β He is also capable of locating people, objects, and vehicles.
βCamden is another tool available for us to use during our fire investigative process,β said Fire Marshal Kevin Rigoli. βHis nose is more accurate than any field deployable monitor available on the market today.Β He is also invaluable to our agency for fire prevention efforts as well.β
Initially trained as a seeing eye dog, Camden began his training as an Accelerant Detection Canine during the summer of 2016.
