A winter weather Advisory is in effect from until 3 PM Sunday.
Low pressure will move across our area through early Sunday. This system is expected to spread rain and snow across much of the region. As of now, the mountain areas will see 1-3″ of snow with isolated higher amounts. Avery county still looks like it has the best chance at higher totals, while Ashe and Watauga will mainly see totals on the lower end. The Foothills will see around an inch with a few isolated areas up to 2″. The storm still looks weak and is trending further south. Areas in and around Charlotte will see snow, but not much for accumulation. Totals for the Piedmont will range between a dusting to an inch. This system will quickly depart our region well before noon on Sunday. We will have a brief period of dry conditions Sunday night into Monday morning before our next system arrives. Temperatures will remain well below average with highs struggling to hit the mid 40’s for both Sunday and Monday.
Sunday: Early morning snow possible. Gradual clearing. High 46. NE 5-8 mph.
Sunday night: Mostly clear and cold. Low 30. E 3-5 mph.
Monday: AM wintry mix possible. Then rain. Mostly cloudy. High 44. ENE 7-9 mph.
