Suspect Arrested In NW Charlotte SWAT Standoff Had More Than 40 Prior Charges
CHARLOTTE, NC — Police say the man arrested after a 10-hour standoff with SWAT has been arrested more than 40 times in the past.
According to CMPD, Demont Forte is facing several charges, including assault and communicating threats, after a standoff with SWAT around 10:30pm Monday. Forte barricaded himself inside a home on Saint Mark Street in northwest Charlotte, and finally surrendered around 8:30am Tuesday.
Police say SWAT was called due to Forte’s violent history. He has been charged with over 40 crimes in the past, including a 1992 murder charge.
No one was injured during the incident.
