Mallard Creek Church BBQ Returns For 93rd Year With Dine In Seating

CHARLOTTE, NC —  An annual election season tradition is back with the 93rd Mallard Creek Church BBQ.

The event which is a fundraiser for the church brings in a large crowd of thousands each year.

This year part of the proceeds will also go toward helping the victims of Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina.

“Every year it still sells out and we do great. It’s a great way to give back to the community and get your belly full at the same time,” volunteer Rusty Wallace said.

For the first time since the pandemic started the outdoor dining was also an option in addition to drive thru and carry out.

It’s also an opportunity for candidates to come out and talk to undecided voters just days before election day.

While some aren’t interested in politics –

“I’ve listened to a lot of politicians. I’m taking a leave today from listening to all the rhetoric,” Evelyn Cahill said.

Others like Fabius Mckee and his wife Molly have been coming every year for more than 30 years.

They said  they love the bbq and the  chance to hear from candidates

“So it’s the interaction that you see. We’ve had politicians all the way up to VP at one time and it’s just an event to come and see what people are actually doing,” Fabius Mckee said.

McKee said it’s also a chance for voters to get questions answered before they head to the polls.

“You could come out there and see them one on one and get an answer from them and get an opportunity to see how they respond without having a chance to have a question preloaded” McKee said.
