Looking back on ice storm that crippled the Carolinas 22 years ago today

The ice storm caused over $300 million in damages. 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It has been 22 years since a historic ice storm hit the Carolinas.

The storm rolled through the night of December 4th, 2002 bringing snow, sleet and freezing rain. Many areas were left with up to an inch of ice accumulation and catastrophic tree damage.Ice

Over 1 million customers were without power for days. Duke Energy was able to restore power across the Carolinas within two weeks.

Per the National Weather Service out of Greenville-Spartanburg, the ice storm caused over $300 million in damages.
