Cause of Target Fire Under Investigation
HUNTERSVILLE, NC — Fire investigators are investigating to find out if someone purposefully set the fire inside the Target store on Sam Furr Rd.
Smoke filled the isles of the store around 5:00 Monday evening.
“There was smoke really coming out of the back of the store,” said one customer, Tucker Horne. “That’s when I knew its a real fire.”
Customers and employees evacuated when firefighters say sprinklers started spraying water and alarms sounded. In minutes, firefighters were swarming the popular shopping area.
“The fire trucks were like coming from all angles,” said Horne.
Outside, medic evaluated customers and employees. Paramedics treated three customers and one employee for smoke inhalation. Crews say everyone escaped the fire.
Inside, firefighters say the fire was blazing near the refrigerated grocery section. Once they put it out, they say a half inch to an inch of water covered that half of the store.
A health inspector documented any food contamination. Target started cleaning and evaluating the damage immediately.
The Mecklenburg County Fire Marshall’s Office will determine what caused the fire.
