CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Target donated nearly 12,000 pounds of food to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina after a recent store fire.
The fire happened on May 22nd at the Target location on Sam Furr Road in Huntersville, NC. The store remains closed due to damage from the fire. Fortunately, Target was able to salvage the food in their coolers and freezers.
The food will be used to help those at risk of hunger in the Charlotte Metrolina region.
“This is such a selfless act on Target’s behalf to think about the less fortunate in our community when they are experiencing such a great loss”, said Kay Carter, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “We are grateful for the donation and it will go to use right away to help those in need. Target has been a great donor to the Food Bank. In the past several years, they have invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in our Metrolina community to support the Food Bank’s Child Hunger Programs.”
The Huntersville Target donation resulted in over 30 pallets of assorted foods. Target team members at the store helped gather the food items and load it onto a SHFBM truck.
The fire is still under investigation and the store plans to reopen in June.
