SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly says the 24 players signing Wednesday with the Fighting Irish should provide the needed depth to challenge for a national championship.
Kelly says he’s not worried some recruiting services have ranked Notre Dame out of the top 10, saying he believes the class can help the Irish compete with anyone. The Irish return nine starters on offense and 10 from defense from last season’s 8-5 team.
Signing day lacked the drama of some recent years, with running back Dexter Williams and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown being the only players to announce Wednesday.
Kelly declined to talk about reports that defensive backs coach Kerry Crooks and quarterbacks coach Matt LaFleur had accepted jobs elsewhere.
