UPDATE: CMPD says the driver, identified as 52-year-old Jerry Helms, has been arrested and charged with Felony Hit and Run.
Officials have also identified the victim as 50-year-old Timothy Cherry.
Helms was arrested early Monday by CMPD with the help of Lancaster and Chester County Sheriff’s Offices.
The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone who witnessed the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Detectives with CMPD’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a deadly hit and run accident that killed one man late Sunday night.
On June 18, 2017 at 11:31 p.m., Officers responded to the 3900 block of Freedom Drive after reports of a hit and run involving an SUV and a pedestrian. Upon their arrival, officers located a male in the left lane. Medic personnel pronounced the male deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash.
A witness stated a white SUV ran the red light on Ashley Road and turned left onto Freedom Drive. From there, the SUV drove west on Freedom Drive and struck the pedestrian. The white SUV was last seen driving south on I-85.
Evidence gathered on the scene suggests the suspect vehicle is a white Honda Pilot. The vehicle will have damage on the front left and a fog light and fog light housing will be missing.
