Couple Arrested For Obstruction After Son Overdoses On Drugs

UNIONVILLE, N.C. — Investigators say a Unionville couple is facing obstruction charges after their son and another man overdosed on drugs.

Deputies and first responders were first called to the home on Asbury Drive on June 24th at 1:42am in reference to an unconscious 19-year-old who was on the back porch of the residence.

The teen was transported to CHS-Union for further treatment.

Investigators say they received another call at the same address around 8am in reference to an unconscious 21-year-old in a parked vehicle in the driveway of the residence.

The man was also taken to CHS-Union for treatment.

Detectives say they determined that both males had been together for several hours and had been using a mixture of controlled substances causing both of them to lose consciousness.

Deputies say an associate drove the two men to the Asbury Drive residence and the mother of the teen, Charlene Pigg,Β helped move her unconscious son from the car to the back porch.

The second man was reportedly left in the passenger seat of the vehicle. Β Deputies say Pigg told the associate who drove her son and his friend home to leave the residence before emergency personnel arrived. Β Deputies also say Pigg never told any of the emergency responders that there was a second unconscious person in the vehicle. Β Detectives also believe that Pigg removed evidence from the vehicle while her son was being treated at CHS-Union.

Deputies say Pigg’s husband, Sanford Pigg, provided false statements to deputies during the course of the investigation.

Charlene Pigg has been charged with breaking and entering and larceny from a motor vehicle, felony obstruction of justice and resist delay and obstruct.
