MATTHEWS, N.C. – Matthews Police have made an arrest in a child sexual abuse materials investigation. On January 14, 2025, police say they got a tip through the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) database. Matthews Detectives say they immediately opened an investigation and identified Jean Paul Vaca-Lopez of Matthews as the suspect.
Detectives executed a search warrant at Vaca-Lopez’s home on January 23rd. After collecting evidence and presenting their finding to a magistrate, Vaca-Lopez was charged with nine counts of felony second degree exploitation of a minor. He was arrested and booked into the Mecklenburg County Jail on February 6th. He bonded out the same day.
