Video game in development depicting troublesome stretch of Charlotte traffic
CHARLOTTE, NC — 277 to Exit 3 through NoDa is one of the most miserable stretches of road in charlotte. Driving it is certainly not a game, but it could be soon.
A Charlotte engineer is getting a lot of attention for a video game he’s making.
Driving that stretch of highway can fell like you’re playing Mario Kart, minus the banana peels.
To Mike Ramirez, driving 277 reminded him so much of a video game he was inspired to make one about the treacherous trek of road.
“I think every time I’ve driven on 277 Exit 3A, it’s exciting switching lanes,” said Ramirez.
Ramirez, a software engineer, started developing Exit 3A, The Game a year ago in his free time.
The player starts on 277 to the NoDa exit, making a loop back on to the highway. The object of the game is to drop off cargo along the way, while avoiding traffic, signs and plenty of bad drivers.
The game is still in development but it’s got a lot of attention in the last month after this preview video was viewed more than 1.5 million times on Instagram.
“I was like, oh, there’s a lot of interest in it,” explained Ramirez of the viral video.
Ramirez said since the viral video, musicians, artist and companies are reaching out to be a part of the finished product he hopes to release as early as the Fall.
“I think it would be really cool to have a little showcase of Charlotte,” Ramirez said of the game.
